VIS is extremely pleased for its pivotal contribution to the successful completion of this challenging study, the first of its kind in Myanmar, was commissioned by e.Gen to support a World Bank-funded study, on assessing the economic costs of natural gas supply, transmission and distribution in Myanmar’s domestic market. The study aims to improve Government policy decisions concerning the allocation of domestic gas to exports and domestic uses, gas pricing and subsidies. VIS provided the Senior Energy Economist who led key tasks of the study, including the development of a costing methodology, the domestic gas supply-demand balance and the options to address shortfalls including LNG imports, the determination of gas costs across the entire gas value chain and the calculation of gas costs supplied to customers at domestic offtake points. VIS developed a tailored gas costing model that was submitted to the Government, to support decision making. The study results were presented in an international conference in Myanmar with the participation of Government, IFIs, international energy companies and investors and stakeholders.
